Tired grass and rotten log roll out, a curved brick wall in, artificial grass between it and the porcelain.

Artificial grass edged in brick against a dark large-format patio.

Kane and his team installed a Venetian style fence, levelled my garden, installed artificial turf and laid some porcelain slabs for me. He came around on the same day I called him to give me a quote, which was the same price once the job finished. His work was first class, he cleaned up after himself once the job was finished, and his communication was excellent. Everything was finished within the time he said it would take. Would recommend to anyone.
Area first, then the base: dug out, compacted stone, a sand screed and fixed edges. Pile height and density change the price of the grass itself.
Area is the start, but what is under the old lawn decides most of the rest. Real turf needs the ground stripped, weeds out, the soil levelled and raked and, where builders have left compacted clay and rubble behind, fresh topsoil brought in, otherwise the new grass sits on a hard pan and browns in the first dry spell. Artificial grass needs more digging, because it sits on a compacted base of crushed stone with a sharp sand screed on top, levelled so the surface does not dip or puddle, and its edges have to be fixed to a border, a kerb or a timber edge. The grass itself varies a lot in price with pile height and density. Shape matters too: a lawn with curved edges, beds cut into it or a patio to finish against means more cutting and more waste than a plain rectangle. Then there is what has to go, from old turf and soil to a play area or a shed base, and how it gets out of the garden. A photo of the space and a rough size will let us tell you which way we would go.
The RHS says that for a shady or damp lawn full of moss, artificial turf is not an effective or sustainable option, because moss can grow on it too.

We lay artificial grass on a compacted, levelled base with a sharp sand screed and fixed edges, usually as part of a bigger garden job with a patio, a wall or a sleeper bed. Send the form with a photo of the space.
